Event Business Formula Essential Skills for Meeting Planners

As a young child, I recall seeing a magician being able to spin several different plates on various poles, all at the same time.

As I watched him, I remember thinking to myself, “Wow, how does he do that?

As an Independent Meeting Planner, do you feel the same? I bet you do.

You see, I’m the type of person who gets easily bored when I am working on only one project at a time. I often find myself focusing on two or three projects at the same time.

  • Are you a multi-tasker like me?
When I worked on too many event opportunities at the same time, I found myself becoming overwhelmed and wondering how I could keep all of my “event plates” successfully spinning at the same time!
  • Has this ever happened to you?
Too often, I found myself getting stuck down in the trenches, instead of taking a step back to reflect on want I wanted to do and how I wanted to progress!
  • Have you experienced this?
Warren Buffett once stated, “The difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say no to almost everything.”As a successful Independent Meeting Planner, I’m sure you often found yourself exposed to a lot of different event opportunities at one time and not wanting to say no to any one of them!
  • Is this true for you?
We must learn the art of saying no to new opportunities to be successful event business owners!

Like me, I am sure you’re stellar at putting out fires and creating on the spot solutions. After all, it’s part of your event business planner DNA!

It is the very thing your clients and colleagues have always praised you for doing, but it’s exhausting, and it can be frustrating when you have too many opportunities to choose from!

Saying no and turning down amazing opportunities because you need to focus your efforts on your current projects can be very frustrating! I understand completely!

But keep in mind that “Success means sometimes saying “no” to an opportunity!”

Have you ever experienced saying no to an exciting new opportunity because you needed to focus on other events? What was the outcome?

Have you thought “What if it is the opportunity of my Life?”

On the same note, have you ever been in a meeting with your clients or your team when somebody suggest an idea and, the next thing you know, everyone is brainstorming on it, sidetracking from the primary goal and spending time and energy working on this “new hot idea” only to be delusional a few weeks later and realize that it wasn’t such a good idea in the first place.

Accordingly, you should remain focused on the one thing that will help your business thrive and/or your client succeed, write down any ideas so that you can come back to it later on and never hesitate to say “no.”

Can you think of as a situation when, if you had to do it again, you would say no earlier?

Can you share it with me in the comments?

And please don’t say “no!”
